The Project

ALG seeks a Team leader to participate in a study aimed at Enhancing rural logistics in the Sahel region. The position is conditional on obtaining the contract with the World Bank. The project 8 months targets the countries of the Sahel and will be carried out from the firm’s office in Dakar (Senegal). The forecast period is from June 2023 to February 2024.

The assignment objective is to gain an understanding the governance, business, services, operational and financial basis of the rural logistics in the Sahel and identify actions to change the trajectory of rural logistics towards the decarbonization and resilience of the sector.

The role

The Team Leader will be responsible for coordinating the Consultant team, leading engagement with the client team, and ensuring overall quality and accuracy of all deliverables and is required to have the following qualifications:

  • At least 15 years of professional experience in climate and disaster resilience, climate change mitigation and environmental sustainability.
  • A masters or doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent preferred) in a relevant discipline such as civil engineering, transportation, logistics, or a related field, with a focus on climate change and sustainability or disaster resilience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects of comparable scope and technical requirements, including research, development of toolkits and guidelines, and leading capacity building activities.
  • Relevant experience working in transportation planning for rural logistics (highly desired if experienced in intermediary modes of transport), decision-making systems for resilience of transportation infrastructure projects, rural accessibility and low-carbon economic development is highly recommended.
  • Extensive and current knowledge of relevant technical and analytical tools, and decarbonization as well as climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Proven team leadership and project management skills, including ability to lead the team by coaching and mentoring team members to achieve individual inputs, and be responsible for the overall quality of deliverables.
  • Familiarity with the Climate Finance Tracking Methodology, Paris Alignment as well as other resources to identify climate risks and opportunities for transport infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent communication skills (in English and French), presentation skills, and an ability to prepare and manage the development of high-quality reports, project documentation, and communications materials.
