The project

ALG seeks a Rural Accessibility and Logistics Expert to participate in a study aimed at Enhancing rural logistics in the Sahel region. The position is conditional on obtaining the contract with the World Bank. The project 8 months targets the countries of the Sahel and will be carried out from the firm’s office in Dakar (Senegal). The forecast period is from June 2023 to February 2024.

The assignment objective is to gain an understanding the governance, business, services, operational and financial basis of the rural logistics in the Sahel and identify actions to change the trajectory of rural logistics towards the decarbonization and resilience of the sector.

The role

The Rural Accessibility and Logistics Expert is expected to serve as the technical lead for component 2 of the project and provide the overarching quality assurance.  The following experience/qualifications are required:

  • At least 15 years working in MDBs, DFIs and/or international financial institutions in the field of rural accessibility and logistics with expertise in transportation, agriculture, or another related field.
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree, equivalent or higher) in economics or relevant field, with special focus on social and economic development, supply chain, logistics or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in development of similar products, sustainable financing and innovative financial mechanisms is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills (in English), presentation skills, and an ability to prepare and manage the development of high-quality reports, project documentation, and communications materials.
