About Côte d’Ivoire

The Ivoirian economy, mainly centered on the production of coffee and cocoa, experienced an exceptional growth during the first two decades, making Côte d’Ivoire a flagship country in West Africa. In 1990, the country went through periods of turbulence, socially and politically, in addition to the economic crisis of the late 1970s. These problems are exacerbated by the death of Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 1993. The adoption of a new Constitution and the organization of the presidential election, which in 2000 brought Laurent Gbagbo to power, did not ease tensions Social and political events that led to the onset of a political-military crisis on 19 September 2002.

The election of Alassane Dramane Ouattara as the country’s leader in 2010 marks the end of the crisis. Since then, Côte d’Ivoire has returned to growth and is once again positioning itself as one of the most promising economies in the region..
